Bagh

(2014)

The mineral-rich Baghini River probably lured the original artisans from Rajasthan and Sindh to Bagh, a small village near Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Over time, craftspeople here developed a distinct style of bold geometric shapes and floral designs in a minimal palette of red and black. Although only a few remaining khatri families continue, a recent surge of interest in their exquisite technique has stimulated production of new pieces  and reinvigorated older design combinations that often  incorporate modern motifs.

With a selection of superior bedcovers, skillfully stamped in a striking array of patterns, Bagh highlights the expertise of artisans from central India along with the adjoining display of contemporary scarves by Womenweave in Bagh.
